Amelanchier Lamarckii also known as the Snowy Mespilus, a recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is an upright stemmed large shrub or small tree, early Spring masses of buds start to open revealing star shaped snowy white flowers, a stunning sight to brighten any garden, whilst in the background it’s bronze tinted young leaves begin to unfurl, maturing to dark green through the Summer months then changing again through shades of red/orange and yellow as Autumn approaches. As the season progresses the flowers are followed by edible purple – black berries, a welcoming treat for the visiting birds.
