Acer Palmatum Orange Dream, also known as the Japanese Maple, and has attained the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a Spring flowering, slow growing, small deciduous tree or large garden shrub of rounded habit. Known mainly for its ever changing coloured foliage, in Spring the fresh young foliage emerges lime/yellow with fiery coral red margins fading away to bright green, becoming a more golden colour with red margins towards Autumn. Its masses of tiny red flowers contrast beautifully against the lime/yellow lobed leaves during the Spring, followed later in the season with red winged fruits. This slow growing deciduous, but stunning Japanese Maple is suitable for a variety of situations, from the border, rockery, pond-side, to patio container planting.
Looking After Your Acer Palmatum Orange Dream
Generally pest and disease free, although may be affected by Aphids during the Summer months, Acer Orange Dream is an easy to grow garden shrub or small tree and suitable in many if not all locations. a low maintenance small tree or large shrub which can benefit from a sunny or semi-shaded area in all types of garden, preferring an acid or neutral, fertile, moist but well drained soil. Early Spring apply a good layer of mulch around the base of the tree to help keep the soil moist during the Summer months, also feed with a multi purpose fertiliser to promote strong new growth in the coming season. Very little if any pruning is required, although removal of any damaged or unwanted branches should be removed late Winter/early Spring whilst still dormant.
