During March tiny yellow flowers are produced before the large lobed, deeply cut maple-like, dark green leaves are formed, these flowers mature into winged seeds, the leaves change to a vibrant red towards the Autumn making a stunning display for any garden.
Looking After Your Acer Griseum
Generally pest and disease free Acer Griseum is an easy to grow small ornamental tree, and suitable in many if not all locations. A low maintenance tree which can benefit from a sunny or semi-shaded area in all types of garden, and prefers a fertile, moist, well drained soil. In the Spring apply a good layer of mulch around the base of the tree to help keep the soil moist during the Summer months, at the same time giving a good general purpose fertiliser to promote new growth in the coming season. Any pruning required should be done during the dormant season to prevent any bleeding or loss of sap as Acers tend to bleed sap when actively growing.
